Hey out there. This isn't that important because their's nothing drastically wrong. However, I recorded the band already, and managed to get a lot of bleed through on some of my drum mics. Mainly, my bass drum and snare mic were picking up cymbal and high hat like crazy. I worked with what I had and it sounds decent, but could be better. Just please listen to the sample labeled "Melodic- Progressive - Riff" and tell me your thoughts. The final mixdown is in about a week when the band adds vocals. I'm wondering if I need to end up using "drumagog" to replace some of the drums or if they're good enough to keep as is. either way, I'll enjoy any advice for the future. Thanks

the hiss from the hi hat and the crash ride are the only things that stood out as unusual to me. The mics you use for that are apparently ideal for the job; they just happen to deliver everything, while a lot of it is better off being dialed out. It's good to have so much to work with and be lowering certain frequencies instead of using lesser equipment then trying to raise frequencies while mixing. They are mics which give you more to work with for different bands' sounds.

Melodic - Progressive - Rock is what I listened to, let me know if thats the wrong one.

The gtrs are very meaty, IMO need a little up top and I agree about the cymbals they have a weird sound to them.
 
yeah that's the right sample. I completely understand what you mean about the crash ride and high hat. Unfortunately, the way I miced it wasn't appropriate and the cymbals bleed through into the bass drum mic and the snare mic. So when I went to eq and compress them, the crash and high hat would get worse.

Thanks for the listen. I purchased new and better drum mics to help me isolate the tracks a bit better. I'll post something new in a few weeks to see if theirs any improvement.
 
you might also want to put a gate on the channels with the snare and the kick next time, to keep out bleeding....

I always wondered about that...but wouldn't that cause the over all levels of the cymbals to waver with every snare hit?
