I have no knowledge of these things, maybe it's just crap but anyways:

JBL Controle One Monitors:
-150 W in 4 ohms
- $91 each x 2= $ 182

Samson Servo Amp:

- Model 120 : 60 + 60 W on 4 ohms : $ 236
- Model 260 :130+130 W on 4 ohms : $ 291

It looks like both amps are too small for the speakers, right? If so, do you think smaller speakers are better or it will be to little power (thus a bigger amp is needed)?

Is the 4 ohms thing ok (I guess it is, but never worked on 4 ohms)?

TIA for your opinion, cheers Andrés

Either amp will work fine. You want the biggest amp you can afford for purposes of headroom.

I'm not familiar with Samson amps, so I cannot speak to their quality. Power and distortion ratings can be misleading, especially on budget equipment. Manufacturers tend to inflate their usable ratings.

Thanks Twist.
I said that I thought the amps were both to small cause from what I learned here it seems that's better to have an amp bigger than your monitors to avoid the possibility of clipping.

Anybody knows the Samsons and those JBL?

I've got a Samson Servo 170 and JBL Control 1s. The Samson's ok. There are much better amps but they cost more. If the Samson packs up I'll replace it with a Hafler, otherwise it'll do for for bedroom mixing. The Control 1s I find very difficult to mix with. I've replaced them with Tannoy Reveals and they are much better.

With the Control 1s I would get everything sounding more or less okay, mix it down, burn a CD, play it on my hi-fi and everything would be wrong: guitars too quiet, drums too loud etc. Going through the whole process again with the Reveals what I hear on my hi-fi is just about the same as what I heard through the Samson/Reveals.
