recently ive decided to just cave in and shell out some money for various recording equipment/hardware/software because im becoming semi-serious about computer recording...at least at home as a small hobby. im not sure if this is the right forum but i need to ask a few questions regarding my computer part of recording.
1-soundcard-i deffinitely need an upgrade to my stock soundcard. i want to keep this reasonably cheap though. i was advised that m-audio makes good soundcards for beginers. what i was wondering was...should i get one of their audiophiles for 99$ and run a mixer through it, or should i just get a mobile pre usb or another external soundcard so i can have xlr inputs and be able to take it places. what are the benefits of each etc.
2-i have a good yet crappy computer. its a 2.6ghz 80gb hardrive and 256 mb ram......however its an intel celeron processer and i would like to have more ram. what type of ram should i look for upgrading? i've seen so many different kinds at all different price ranges and i dont know the difference. i was also thinking about an external hardrive. should i just invest in a new computer all together? or is this one descent enough to have a few upgrades to be enough to get the job done.
