To do what you want to do is not hard. You can do this several ways at least. The easiest (and worst quality) is to play the music through you sound system or HiFi whilst you talk into the microphone. If you have a PC then you can record on a little known program on your PC called SNDREC32. Do START > RUN then type sndrec32. This costs $0 (apart from the microphone). However you may not like the quality of the result but it is easy to do.

The second way is to record your voice using SNDREC32 and save the file and then copy it to a CD and take it to someone who knows how to merge the two files.

Method three is to do the whole thing yourself. Here's how. Get audacity (it's free) http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows and install it. Connect you microphone to the PC's sound card and run the program. Test your mic by pressing the record button - it's the big round red one :)

Once this works, you are nearly there. Start Audacity with a blank screen and import your music using Project > Import Audio. Now press Rocord and record your voice. Save the project. Now you can have fun adjusting the relative volume levels by selecting various parts of the waveforms and using the Effect > Amplify function (use either + or - numbers and 6 is a good starting number. When you're done, save the project once more. Now use File > Export as WAV or MP3.

To make a CD, right click on the Exported file you just made and Send it to the CD burner (probably Media Player).

I know all this sounds complicated but after a few tries you should be all set.

Finally it occurs to me that there's an even simpler method. You record you voice onto anything that will record and play bachh through a speaker (an old casette plarer would do). You take this + a second player for the music and you switch them both on.

I hope this helps - Pete

this site seems to have some cool dudes who actually know what they are talking about as opposed to those that constantly put down newbies.

Speak for yourself. I love berating newbies and destroying their self-esteem. One of the great joys of life, in fact. :D

I'm a newbie here and you left me alone :)

However I have been in the audio business both as a professional and as an enthusiast for 45 years. I am also an IT manager and I hold two degrees in elecronics and telecommunications. Bur I'm still a newbie here and If you look at my 1st posting, I was looking for advice.

Only kidding. This is a good forum. As the earlier posting said, some folk here actually know of what they speak.
