Boy, I do have some real goodies myself, but you should see what my girlfriend gets away with.
She has an education as a classical guitar player, and bought a concertguitar like two years ago. Nowadays she hardly plays herself (she is always busy teaching) and this guitar has been laying unattended in the case for over a year. We are talking about a $5000 Bernabe M30. She doesn't even look into the case anymore. She only plays on stupid Yamaha kiddie guitars or on special occasions on her Takamine.

Now here's my plan. I sell the bernabe for lets say $3499 to one of you guys. I replace it in the case with a lookalike worth about $10. I buy myself studiogear worth $3489. This gotta work.

Yeah until your girlfriend finds out, and she will, then you will have to spend the rest of your life making it up to her, and believe me you will.

DS...3 part plan.....

1) grow some balls...this relationship cant continue if you dont have the grapefruits to stick up for yourself.....

2) kindly tell her that youll be selling the guitar and spending that money, if not more, on gear that will be used by you....

3) email me for my address...youll be needing a place to stay when you get out of the hospital:D   ;)

...but honey...SMACK..ouch..I'm really sorr..SMACK..ouch..look, I was gonna tell you abou..SMACK..ouch..but check out this mic pre SMACK..ouch..

3500 bucks is over my maximum limit of 350 bucks for a guitar....absolute top end for me is 400 bucks (that price is reserved for a really fine piece..like an old gibson firebird.) I don't really think a guitar exists that is worth more than 400 bucks.

I think my Martin D-41 is worth the $3900 they go for. I just played and am lusting for a $4500 Goodall hand made from AAA koa wood and I KNOW it's worth it. You get what you pay for.

I am the custodian of a vintage 1968 000-18 Martin flat-top....

It sat in a closet for 23 years....not a blemish on it and the neck is straight and true.

I do not know what it's worth but, it is the sweetest sounding git I have ever had the pleasure to play.

I guess with some things price does not matter....it all depends on your prioritys.

My wife threatens tokick me out if i buy new strings......

Gidge : "I need new strings"

Gidge's Wife : "Why, did one break?"

Joro, I have a 1955 000-18 that's pretty sweet but it has a few dings in it.

Hey TrackRat

Cool!

I gotta tell ya....
A lot of people say that the make and model do not matter but, as far as I am concerned.....
They just don't make em' like they used ta :)

I did play a new superb Seagull acoustic / electric (maple) recently ...
Pretty nice guitars but, soooooooo expensive.

I had to ask the sales dude if it was Canadian dollars on the price tag....sheesh.

They don't make guitars like they used to?

I love my PRS. My buddy has a 74 sg-62 custom totaly reworked and I would not trade. But then he would not trade me either:). It's all in waht you like. I would say 2k is about my top, but then enter the wife factor. Hmmmmmmm.

F.S.

Happy New Year!!!

you definately get what you pay for...i have a Taylor K14c, koa back and sides, engleman spruce top..etc. she's my baby...cost about 4 grand.

Yes, you have it right..... In fact, apply this theory to all "her" stuff. Tell her you dont know where it is {why replace it}. Check her jewelry box too, your bound to find something the pawn shop will take at 10% of value. When your done, tell her you love her.

Ofcourse she doesn't have any jewelry. I never gave her. You know what it costs these days. Man, I allready bought equipment for that money.

not to run it in, but....

Man, it sure is nice to be me. No children to worry about, and so basically my wife hasn't said much about my studio construction. She's glad I'm getting something out of it, is about as much as she says. Unfortunately she has no interest whatsoever in this project (I actually would enjoy her company on this joy-ride, but c'est la vie.)

I've come up with 101 justifications anyway. I'll be happy to post them if anyone needs some justifications for their spending spree's. But back to the guitar, I think Gidge hit the nail on the head..... Just be sure to wear a cup before you start to have that little chat with your wife (and stand in a strategic position behind a large piece of furniture.)
