I just upgraded my motherboard and CPU to ASUS A7N8X-E and Athlon XP 3200+.
I have been using the Gina-20 for a long time, but I do not do much recording (analog). Especially more recently, I do almost everything digitally with VSTs and other utilities. I still want to be able to record a halfway decent microphone or guitar or other analog gear, but it doesn't happen often.
My question: The Gina 20 is already a pretty old soundcard, and the brand new motherboard has onboard your basic RealTek ALC650.
Also, I have no need at all for 8 outputs. The only reason to keep the Gina that I can think of is for having the box outside the computer for DAC (is that the right acronym?). So far my machine is running quietly and I don't really expect a lot of computer noise interference, but it remains to be seen/heard.
I've been happy the Gina, but I'm leaning towards finally laying the Gina-20 to rest. Can anyone advise me about this?
Thanks,
Chris
