Hey guys. I live where it is a bit hard to get in to test out mics:(
I am looking at buying a main vocal mic very soon. I was hoping you could help me out.

I am looking at the normal suspects, v67g, c1, and I have been hearing about the ADK mic.

I would like to make it out for around $200.00.

My voice is deep. If anything I have had problems with getting enough high end on tape/hard drive. To give you an idea I've been compared to Danzig, Bowie, Pink floyd. I have also had some problems with bottoming out mics.

Any suggestions would be great!!! I am looking to buy soon and am sort of leaning tward the V67G??

Thanks so much!!

I have all the answers you need.

Unfortunately, I was not mentioned and therefore cannot post my opinion :(

Hehe...but, It starts with a C and ends with a 1....that's been my experience...in terms of getting the nice low...but, not getting a muddy sound.

I liked the V67...and, for 100 bucks...i was going to buy one...but, decided against it. But, I felt like the bass was almost overpowering at times....I have a pretty low voice also.

Studio Projects C3 is what i eventually went with. But, very similar to C1.

I've heard some great things about the AT3035 but have never used one (figure it'd be a little redundant..with my C3...my next mic is either T3 or NTK)...too bad you can't try the stuff out.

Anyways, thats my 2 cents...hopefully some of the pros will chime in for you ;)

wes480: Your opinion is valued:) Anyone can chime in.

Two questions

1: where can you find a v67g for $100.00??? I'm looking

2: I used a rode LD mic in the studio and it came out great, unsure of the model thought. It was not the most high end studio though. mabey a $500.00 mic. Do the Rode mics have a common theme as far as color that might be a decent match to a lower priced mic?

I think I am looking for something pretty flat with a detailed high end????

Thanks

Marshall mxl v93 or 2003.

can't tell you about the characters of Rode mics really...

though, i find that my NT3s are very neautral...when it comes to the frequency response.

Like, pretty even....maybe just a hue of bass to the overall sound...I love that mic though.

The marshall 603s seemed a little brighter to me.

you owe it to yourself to try out the at 3035. $199 complete with shockmount.

I have been shocked everytime I've heard that mic. It sounds way more expensive than it really is.

CyanJaguar, wes480

Thanks Guys!

I'll check out the 3035. I have on AT mic. a at813 I got used for $40.00. I have used it on vocals. It sounds pretty good really.

I checked on the 4033 but it's a bit over my budget.

Thanks Again

F.S.

I got a pricematch from samash online. Just be patient. I sent 2 emails to 2 different people and called and sent in a pricematch form. Three days later, after I bought a V67M, they sent me back a reply that matched it for $105 shipped. If I can find the guy's name I will let you know...

WOW CyanJaguar!

3035at 8th Street for $200.00 with boom stand, cable, shockmount, 10Db pad, and a high pass filter. Not only that but the specs look good. Very high SPL compared to many others.

I am thinking about it!!??!!??

CyanJaguar, did you compare the AT 3035 to the AT 4033, or a C1? I'm in the market too for a nice allround ld-condenser... (will be using it on acoustic guitars, vocals and guitar cabs...)
ANy thoughts?
( I know the NTK gets a lot of thumbs up, but it's a bit outta my league.)

Anyone else want to chime in?

Has anyone worked with the at3035? It seems to have very good reviews.

Thanks

Thanks Bruce

I've actually got 3 sm-57's, I would like more. They are pretty much used up on the drums. I need 2 more for guitar cabs.

Thanks

I just post this info on another thread just yesterday. I have both the 3035 and the 67g. So far I've use the 3035 on acoustic guitar, flute, madolin and harmonica. Very nice. clear. Not completly transparent. A bit more color than my friends AT 4033. I have used the 67g on some guitar (didn't like it as much as the 3035) and vocals. I'm happy with the results. I bought both at the same time at Sam Ash. I brought in the printouts from 8th street.com. I bought a couple of other small items but I wound up at $199 for the 3035 w/ a boom stand and a cheap cable. The 67g with cable and boom stand and shock mount was $150. If you don't need the mount, stand, and the green paint on the mic you can get the V67m at 8th street for $99.

ahhhh SM-7

Sorry bout that. miss read.

Thanks for the info guys!

zbert , Did you try the 3035 on vocals? if so what did you think?

Thanks

The deed is done

I just ordered an at3035 from 8th street. I will let you know how it goes.

LongWaveStudio: Thanks for the chime in I will check it out. Must head to work at the moment though.

Later and thanks for all the help.

Due to misleading inferences by Audio Technica and other manufacturers, it is commonly thought that many of their microphones are "large diaphragm" just because they put a big grill around the capsule. In fact, in many models, they are not. That does not necessarily make them bad microphones, but you should be aware.

littledog: Not in this case, I checked it out this is a 26mm or 1.02 inch diaphram.

Don't FREAK me out man:)

By the way I mentioned the Rode mic that I had recorded on in a studio, I called the tech. It was a NT2 from back when they cost $800.00. He said he has a at4033 he uses on occasion and that he can barely tell the difference. Though he says the nt2 sounds just slightly (very slightly) better.
