I've got a friend, a drummer that might sell me a firebird at some 200 euros.. (Ows me money)
Some other said that it isn't a good guitar, I havent tested it yet. ..But if it turns out to be OK, it sounds like a deal?..

That guitar has been under his bed for years, I tried to ask where he bought it and at what price but the dude became secretive, some friend of his might have nicked the damn thing years ago.. I'll try to ask that again...

But it might be legit and bought some point at the 90's, so I'd figure it to be worth the buck??

If it is a genuine Gibson Firebird, €200 sounds like a bargain (depending on what else he owes you, and the condition it's in of course!).

A lot of people don't like them because they do tend to be headstock heavy and the mini humbuckers are supposed to be thin sounding. Admittedly, I've never tried one, so I can't comment on the sound, but if you want, you can change the pickups (P-90's should straight in, so there's an option), just remember to keep hold of the originals if you ever sell it on.

Edgar Winter used a Firebird, and so did Phil Manzanera from Roxy Music...

That would be Johnny Winter wouldn't it?

I think firebirds are the coolest looking guitar out there....but I don't like the way they play.
It's a matter of personal opinion.
resale is usually pretty good on firebirds

Erm... Possibly, I always get the 2 mixed up! ;)

I love the look of them as well, I've just never played one other than picking them up briefly at music shops, but I do have 2 Ibanez Iceman (Icemen?), which are very similar guitars, apart from being set necks instead of through necks.

That's why I need to see it too, they have been manufactured with set necks, and through necks, mini-humbuckers and regular ones. I think these late models (reissues?) have been with set necks and regular 'buckers... which would be nice. There are also a model with three pickups, and some are with tremolo-bar. (which isn't nice)
At least I found out that it isn't stolen. :D
Should see the thing tomorrow, there goes my good nights sleep...

I would say any genuine Gibson is worth the $200E, and can be made playable.

Those mini humbuckers make nice rhythm sounds.

I've never played a Firebird but always thought they looked cool.

That "other guitar player" from Oasis often plays one, and it sounds good.

I have a Firebird and I like the way it plays and sounds. The neck is similar to an SG (wide fretboard and thin neck stock). The sound is a bit thin, but I still like it running through my Marshall. The best thing about it is I really like the way it hangs. It is one of the most comfortable guitar's I have. The only downside I think is the middle pickup. It seems to get in the way once in a while.

Gibson's Firebird I, V & VII all had through necks, the V & VII had mini 'buckers where other models had P-90's. It's only the latest incarnation, the Firebird Studio, that has a set neck and regular humbuckers.

Most copies hace set necks.

Buy it. I would kill for a Firebird! And if it's not your cup of tea I'd gladly take it off your hands and pay postage to the US.

I agree, a Firebird will definitely set you apart from the 1000 other guitar players with the Strats and Les Pauls, though I am partial to the reverse style Firebird rather than the original style.
Oh yeah, McCartney played the "Maybe I'm amazed" solo on a Firebird too.

Man, I played wit a cat with a Firebird and he made that thing sing!

Firebirds are great guitars IMO.

Have their own unique sound. Definately the chimiest of all Gibson models.

I want one so bad.

All GIBSON Firebirds except for the "Studio" are neck through.

Beware that they are neck heavy and that a snappped off headstock is the most common defect. Check the neck well.

It's kinda shocking,jimi,but I don't agree with you! :D
They are butt ugly, but I've grown very fond of minihumbuckers!
I dunno,they're kinda like bulldogs.They're so ugly,they're attractive.

lost it...

I should have known to have no expectations, my luck..
The dude got his finances worked out and is selling no more, pitty..
..would have paid like 400 or something cause the thing looked good.
