any of you guys ever accidentally recorded strange sounds or unidentified voices? any stories?

you mean things like GET OUT!!!!!!!!! no ------ but the digital whir from my drive does sound like alien codes of some sort

I recorded a singers fart once... then added delay, chorus, a flange effect, and reversed it... It made quite the sample. I don't think that's what you meant though :D

Shielded cables...

and short runs are recommended, to keep down RF noise. Gilligan had the same problem.

I've heard some pretty hot little accidents happen when re-using a mulitrack tape of some kind that previously had stuff on it.

Do you hear dead people or just an AM Radio station?

Do you hear dead people

Oh, yeah! It's scary! How do I get all these ghosts out of the machine? None of the noise reduction presets work. What do I do??? I was hoping to get a Grammy this year, but how am I going to release this with all the spirits? Pleae respond. This is a real problem.

Oh! I know what it is! He's using a dynamic mic, but has his phatom power turned on. His pahtom power is speaking to him.

Oh! no, wait it could be Patrick Sweasy and he wants to tell Demi he loves her! :D

ehm, i'm not hearing strange things myself dracon (and my tascam 244 doesn;t have phantom), but I was just looking for some juicy stories. You don't have to be so mean right away, or i;ll start crying ;)

i thought I heard ghosts knocking on things around the studio, and I was really creeped out, untl I realized that I had left a condenser mic plugged in upstairs, and it was just some people having sex!

(keep in mind that this was a 5.1 surround studio)

I remember once while recording in a friends basement that was near a 50KW AM religious station My distortion pedal kept picking up the AM signal of the radio station. At the end of a seemingly perfect take of a song about group sex, the last note od the guitar died out and through the amp we all clearly heard "It's the work of the devil I tell ya', the work of the devil."

We quite recording the rest of that day and just drank.

LOL!! Oh! Comon. You quit recording, cause of that? That's funny. Man, haven't you walked into a 'haunted house' when you were a kid. I don't mean the ones you pay to go in. I mean that creepy abandoned house at the edge of town, or wherever it was in your town. The one house all your buddies told stories about, seeing people in the window and that Old Man Smith (who supposedly died in 1950) was still hangin around and taking childern.
Didn't you ever had to walk through the woods on a moonless night by yourself when you were 12?
Hell, I'd be more scared to walk into a 7Eleven at 1:00am that some weird noise coming out of my speakers.

I wasn't trying to be mean.
You want a juicy (scary) story?
Okay, here it goes.
In 1987, I was still in highschool, and I had gotten home from school. My mother and I lived in an appartment building and it was 3:00pm in South Florida (West Palm Beach to be exact). I had been sitting watching tv and eating a snack, when I decide to get up to go to the bathroom. Yeah, I know nothing scary. When I stepped into the hallway, a figure moved from the bathroom to my mother's bedroom. It really freaked me out. I was by myself, and I knew there was no one else in the apartment because there was only one door to the apartment, and we lived on the second floor.

In that same apartment, around the same year I was walking down the hallway. This time my mother was in the kitchen and it was late enough to be dark. As I'm walking down the hallway, someone taps me on the shoulder. Instinctively I looked back. There is nothing there.

I can tell you more stories of that apartment, or of other houses I lived in, to include having people call my name in a house when I was by myself.

There you go! However, nothing on recording ever.

the group COIL have always said that they have an entity that they call "elph" who seemingly creates disturbances in their studio.

that is all i can add unfortunately!!!!

Back when I was doing everything on tape there were frequent strange little sounde that would just be there. I never attributed it to ghosts, just figured it was cheap tape or power fluctuations or something easily explainable. I have heard quite a few notes that i dont remember playing, don't know if that counts. If we were takling about cameras, that would be a different story, I've had lots of film developed with images that I didn't see when i snapped the shot.
I just knew someone would start a thread like this after a few had seen "White Noise" in fact, I almost started it myself.

I would've shit my pants. Heh.

Speaking of abandoned buildings.. I live about 45 minutes away from an abandoned mental asylum called Pennhurst. The place scares the fuck out of me.. but it's just so damn fascinating. Last week I was bored and drove up there. The gate was left open so I drove around the campus for a half hour or so. The buildings are tall and creepy and there aren't many windows left. It sits on 250 acres of land, I think. I know that there are 30 buildings or so. I've only seen 15 of them. Some have been knocked down and some are on blocked roads. It's a really neat place though. Look it up sometime. :)

Oh! Man those are the best. You have to get a bunch of your friends (try to include some chicks if you can - however, they usually don't go for this sorta thing), and go out there at midnight (make sure there is no moon out - make's it darker).
Before you take off for the 'haunted insane asylum' make sure you guys tell scary stories for about two hours before. You want to be scared, forget Friday the 13th or Jason movies. Go and do this, and I'm telling you you'll find out who are the scary cats.
When I was 14 I was so scared (I used to hang out with a bunch of 18-22 year olds) I almost crushed some guys hand. Yeah, I was so freaking scared I wanted to hold someone else's hand, in my fear I started to squeeze this poor guys hand (don't feel too bad for him, cause they were playing a prank on me) and he had to tell me to ease up on his hand.
When one of the guys pretended to be possesed by a spirit I took off running like a little girl. They kept telling me to wait for them. Yeah! Right, I was like a block ahead of them running like a madman.
Then about a month later a large group went, and this time it was a full moon, which suprisingly didn't make it as scary 'cause you could see pretty far off. Also there were like 10 or 15 people on this trip. What scared the crap out of us, was this large crane (the bird) took off out of the woods and swooped over our heads.
In these you also find the guys that can run the fastest. I was never the fastest runner in competitions. My best buddy was much faster than, I was. Unless, I was scared. I was always at the front of the line - Adrenaline kicks in and forget it - save your self buddy. He he he. Man those were crazy times.
