MoonMix Studios
Crew,

Just purchased a nice quality Channel Strip & Mic (Focusrite TwinTrak Pro & Groove Tubes GT55.) Broke them out for the first time yesterday for a vocal session at a friends project studio...& I noticed that, even though @ normal gain & impedance settings, everything sounded very, very quiet, I still had 35dB of noise on the peak level meters [in the track in the DAW (SONAR)] !

I'm going to listen very closely to just those vocal takes tonight, after I upload into my DAW from the external drive...but, that doesn't sound normal, right?

Even during the session, I would be monitoring that queued track in the phones prior to recording...& there would be absolute silence (even though the meter was hovering around -34 to -40dB); & then when the vocalist would speak or rehearse, the levels would be normal.

I had my variable input impedance on the pre set to 1.6kohms for the GT55's output impedance of 200ohms (which is within the normal 10X range...& which sounded just fine for overall frequency response.) The gain on the pre was set to about +25 to +30dB (just a little beyond the center of the range.)

Can't figure out what's going on.

Thanks,
