Hello All,
I'm new here. I post on the harmony-central.com forums often, and just heard of this place and wanted to come by.

I'm just getting in to recording, and to tell you the truth, don't know a thing about it. I bought a book:

Digital Home Recording by John Chappell, and have been reading it, but as I've found out, it doesn't really speak in laymen's terms, which is what I need.

I need some help getting started. Let me let you know what I do have.

Dell Dimensions
1.8 ghz Pentium 4
256 megs RAM (about to upgrade to 512)
42 gigs Hard drive
Windows XP
Cool Edit Pro 2.0 (registered)

Sony Minidisc recorder MZ-R700 (It's a little outdated, I've had it for 2 or 3 years now);
Peavey XR-600B PA System with speakers and cords (this is just my old PA system from being in a band);
4 AKG 190E Mics, and cords;

Alesis QS8, all cords
Ludwig Superclassics Drum Set (5 piece)
Ibanez Soundgear 5 String Bass
Peavey Basic 112 Amp

This is what I'm thinking I should get first:

M Audio Delta 66 Soundcard for my computer, plus;
M Audio Moni I/O front end
Audio-Technica ATH M30 headphones

Would this be a good start for getting a little personal home studio up and running?

Are there good websites for beginners who don't know the jargon yet and who don't have a lot of equipment?

you'll have better luck posting to the Newbie forum.:D

This forum is mostly for the actual physical construction of a studio. What you put all your gear in.

Of course, there are smart people in here, that may be able to help you out. But the newbie forum is really the right area for this question.:D

Okay thanks,
I didn't even see the Newbie forum when I first posted. :)
