I want to get started with making beats. I tried the software route, but I like the feel of actually using "real" equipment. Besides an MPC, Keyboard, and Turntable, what other suggestions do you have for "must have" equipment?

Unless you got a wad of cash then it's a piece by piece process and starting with equipment that you can build around is most important thing. Getting a all-in-one beat machine like a workstaion keyboard or MPC is the best bet for a cat that's new to this. If you are planning to record you own stuff then next would be a recording workstation of some type. Something that will allow you to understand the basics of recording and mixing your music. Either software or hardware based.

Ideal hardware setup for me if i was a new cat (knowing what I know now) would probably be a RS7000 if couldn't play or a MOTIF if I could play or just wanted to be able to. That'll give me the music. Then add to that a AW4416. You got all the beats and recording shit you'll need. But it's a hell of a lot of shit to learn if you have little experience, little drive, or little time.

Best thing you can do is research and learn before you buy. Then top that off with boards like these where you can come and ask educated questions and get advise from cats that's been aorund the block.

To be more specific to your question... A audio recorder if you plan to record.

Thanks

Thanks a lot! I've got a lot of research to do yet.
