I play guitar and would like to start recording on my pc.
i have a computer, electric guitar, and amp
what do i need to get started?
thanks.

nothing too expensive
but something that is good to learn on

N-Track (recording software) $75 (www.fasoft.com)
Yamaha MG series mixer (the small ones are under a 100 bucks)
M-Audio Delta 44 (or similar--this is the interface that connects your mixer to your computer) $100-125
Shure SM-57 microphone 60 bucks used, 89 new
Cables, cables and cables...

Your most basic setup, therefore, will run you about 400 clams.

mbox and pro tools

I think your best bet to star off would be to go ahead and spend the cash on Pro Tools and the Mbox. Not only is it a one stop shop for beginners, but it is also what the pros use a lot. About the only added expense would be a decent set of powered monitors (100-150) along with a good mic. I just bought an I5 which was reasonable. However, if you look at Gtr Ctr, etc. they have a lot of "bundles" that include Mics, Stands, Cables and Monitors, great for the beginner. Lastly, a good controller is Oxyen 8 if you want to get into Midi and Synth stuff.
