And next time you hear that, give the singer a glass of water, it's from dry mouth.

not always, it can be from too much liquid in the mouth too...that's what you're hearing is the actual puddle of wetness in the lips/mouth. Also I think too much sugar can create that....like drinking pop right before you sing/speak or even eating candy.

just edit them out. it should be easy in any DAW. select the smack section and delete.

If you delete them, won't that move the sections behind them forward? Should they maybe just mute them?

no, unless you want it to. that's the beauty of non-linear editing. pretty much every program will just keep the wave form where it's at. you can edit out a part of the wave, replace it, move it....and the other sections won't even be bothered.
some programs have a mode that allows you to shift all the other wave regions when you delete a section. In PT for example it's called Shuffle mode.

but yes, you can just as easily mute 'em instead. deleting is muting in a way.

make them sing louder......(if that's a possibility)

think of thoes crappy mouth noises as the "noise floor" quiet singers are way more likely to have this problem then louder ones because the volume of the crap is much higher relitive to the volume of thier singing.

and water..... but one drink usually isn't enough, sometimes you actually need to re-hydrate them (couple cups and a couple minutes for it to get into the system) before it'll reduce.
