Im looking into the Mackie MR5's and was wondering if this is a good choice?
My budget is $400.00
I will be using these monitors with a Boss BR900CD so they have to have RCA jacks.

Opinions, Thoughts?

Or Mackies but I didn't want to bust his bubble ... Whoops! :o

Bubble done been bust!

To elaborate on the port thing, front ported monitors perform better than rear ones when located close to a wall. Which tends to be the case for most around here. Rear ported ones just add to the bass problems in a small room.

OK Great Info...I'm totally new this hence "My 1st set of reference monitors" What do you recommened for entry level monitors in my price range? Area being used is a bed room maybe 12x14.
Thanks.

I use KRK Rp5 G2's. Added the sub as bass is a bit weak with the 5's alone. Found the pair on Craigslist for $170. :)

Once again, I am thrifty like Jesus! :D

The trouble being is you'll never know what will sound good in your room till you put the monitors in place.

He is like that. I've even seen him walk on water!

i can't speak for the mr5s, but i've been mixing on hr624s now for a good while and i love em!
brought them to uni with me...everyone else has been taking their sessions to the reference studio over there, whereas my mixes have just translated really well from the mackies :)

my first 'real' monitors were alesis m1 active mk2s which are priced similarly to the mr5s..

VERY quickly got rid of those! lol

It may not be the case with those mr5s, but my advice with anything like speakers, interfaces, preamps, is save up and get ones that you won't outgrow

at least, not straight away.

Older Event 20's are what I use so I can't comment on anything else....

Shit, I may have to go back to GC tomorrow. One of the woofer dust caps was broken. Suppose replacing both of those would be pretty cheap.

Those things are huge compared to my little 5's.
