You have some good ideas here - particulary in terms of production and how it relates to form. I like how the distorted guitar becomes more prominent in the choruses and lays back for the verses. You add a sense of tension and releas with the seventh chords and the tambourine heading into the chorus. The melody is pretty fair, in a laid-back sort of way. Very singable, though, which is good. The lyrics make a good first impression, too.
There are some tuning issues here. The vocals (lead and backing) often drop flat - but you did say this was a quick recording. Unless it is your singer's style to slur words, or if it s a desired effect for the song, I would suggest trying to have the singer articulate some of the lyrics more cleanly as well. I'm also hearing something peculiar in the guitars, but only in places.... not sure what it is, though. A G-string out of tune, perhaps?? Most of my uncertainty here comes from the fact that it doesn't seem to happen all the time. Did you patch a few takes together, with one of those takes having a string out of tune?
I'm wondering, too, if there is something you can do to add interest to the production in terms of "sonic landscape." You have pretty much the same panning, sounds, etc. all through the song. Not really any ideas here myself, but one of those things that are easier to criticise than they are to implement your self.

I'm sure others will be able to help you more on this one.
Keep at it!
