Im using a dda q series 32 channel 8 sub mixer to 2 8 track adat recorders.
Right now im just expierimenting but need to know what will be the best way to get my tracks dumped into my computer. Im using adobe audition. I would like to have as much control as possible over each track but im not sure i will be able to afford right now what i'll need to do that. What type of interface would you guys recommend or what route should i go. Hopefully ive given enough info to give me some ideas but i have a feeling im leaving something out ,let me know.
Thanks, Dreib

I would look for an interface with ADAT in, so you can transfer the digital tracks, rather than converting to analog, then back to digital. Then you'll be able to transfer one 8 track tape at a time. The only problem is that you'll have to line the first 8 tracks up with the second 8 tracks in your DAW. You could record a click track accross all 16 of the tracks and then just nudge 8 of the tracks over until they line up. I use a MOTU 8pre, which has adat in, but there are others. I think Focusrite makes a nice one in their Sapphire line that's pretty affordable if you have firewire.

I'm sure there are better ways of doing this, but this is just how I've done it.

hope this helps.

You can get an interface with ADAT ports or
you can just get an ADAT PCI card for your computer.

You might want to go with a full interface, because once you get the files into the computer and start mixing them in your sequencer you'll be making adjustments and decisions (and you DONT want to use some crap onboard card to listen through...)

ok i think im going to go with the Moto 8 pre, seems like it would be ideal for me, although i am a little concerned about my computer, it has firewire but is a little old.

So i get a moto 8pre a few light pipes to connect everything and firewire it straight to my computer...correct?
Now my next covert op is how to sneak this past the wife! Tips are welcome!
