hi there!
i have no idea how to get my takamine accoustic/electric recorded into cakewalk pro audio 9 (which i am getting soon). some people have told me to get a mixer, but i don't know anything about those. please help, i'm so young and ignorant! :) thanks

What kind of sound card will you be using?
Do you have a decent microphone?
Generally, acoustic guitars are mic'd. To use a mic you need a mic preamp. Mixers generally have mic preamps.
You could just plug your guitar into your sound card and record this way, but it won't sound like an acoustic.

Read some articles about home studio setups.
You need to know what you don't know before you start.

Hi electronicdreaming,

I recently asked pretty much the same question in the "Newbie" section, and received some pretty good information from the reponses I got. Look for my name there and you should be able to find the post.

electronicdreaming............. you should be able to record your accoustic/electric direct. Get a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter (Radio Shack, about $5) and plug into the line in on your computer's soundcard. You'll soon see what those built-in pickups are for - to help an accoustic guitar cut through in a live situation with a band. But it's a good idea to do a little recording with this set-up, to help you to understand where you need to go next. Soundcard, decent mic, and mic pre will probably be needed before a mixer (although you could get a soundcard and/or a mixer with pre-amps included). Good luck.
