Is there any out board gear out there or any other solutions that will enable me to get more than 8 outputs from my digi 002 rack unit?

ie.
If I have 16 recorded tracks, I want to send those
16 tracks from protools OUT to a 16 channel console for mixing.

thanks in advance!

Behringer ADA8000 would be perfect for your needs. Very cheap and very usable.

I actually have one of those already. I know it has 8 xlr outputs in the back, but, am i able to assign those in protools giving me 16 outputs to a console?

i have the console, but haven't tried with protools yet b/c my studio is on my 2nd floor of my home until i finish the main studio.

I suppose you'd ignore the XLR outs, and go with an ADAT connection

Yes. Just go to Setup --> I/O. Click the output tab. It should have the hardware outs along with the ADAT and S/PDIF outputs. I was using the same setup with an 003r, ADA8000, and an Allen & Heath Mix Wizard. Still have it all, I'm just mainly focusing on mixing in the box now. You'll just need an 8 channel XLR to TRS snake for the Behringer. Here are some really nice cheapies, I've been using them for years with no issues.
