Getting Burned by Easy Creator

When I try to erase my CD-RW discs using Adaptec's Easy Eraser it says it has made the disc blank but it hasn't. I've tried using Super Blank and get the following message: "Blank failed -- Drive returned 'Ready Status' too soon." I don't know what its telling me or what I should do about it. Easy Creator also freezes most of the time (?) when I use the same CD-RW discs (which have space on them). So far I've uninstall/reinstalled Easy Creator and got a patch from Adaptec and updated the Plextor CD-RW and have had no luck.

Any helpful ideas?

I've had similar problems with Adaptec and it could be a number of things. I would recommend checking the following:

1. DirectCD Software version.

Make sure it is upgraded to version 2.5d. build (296) You can get the upgrades from Adaptec.

2. EasyCD Creator Software version.

Make sure u are running version 3.5c build (263)

If the CD-RW function worked before, chances are that the CD Writer is failing or you may have changed the environment by installing other CD writer software. This is often a problem in that not all cd-writer software packages supports your cd-writer hardware. When installing these packages they install drivers into directory windows\system\iosubsys.
These drivers are loaded at startup even though they may not be used.
These drivers may conflict with each other. I am not sure which of these drivers are used for Direct cd but you can try fixing it by renaming the .vxd files to .savevxd which will prevent it from being loaded. WARNING: Change the .vxd files one by one and not all at the same time. This may cause other devices to fail but it is a trial and error process and can be laborious.
If you want to be sure, surf some of the cd-writer web sites, they usually have a lot of good information. Unfortunately I cannot remember the urls as i had the problem a long time ago.

Maybe someone else on this BBS knows more about the driver issue.

Good luck

Make sure you have the following OFF

Screen Saver OFF OFF big no no when burning
Power saver OFF make sure your puter doesnt go on standby while burning it will freeze up as well. And one more thing CLOSE your mail server when burning.. Dont know if that helps but i took two burners back that i thought were defective and made several frisbees. ;-)

Thanks for your comments. Things are going better with the burner (keeping Murphy's Laws in mind). Not sure, but I think 2 of my CD-RW discs are the flawed culprits.

Thanks,
