i've been a long time user of this site, and used to post more under a different account and have generally fallen off of being an active member and haven't been doing much of anything with respect to recording... but i've been getting back into it slowly.

here's something i've been working on here and there. no vocals (trust me, you don't want me singing).

Rediscover

recorded into alsihad (digi002r, command|8 cs).
i should probably also provide a bit more information...

drums: clavia ddrum4
guitar: gibson sg standard
amp: marshall jcm2000 head, ran through hot plate then into mic pre, then into guitar rig 2 (for amp modeling)
bass: washburn 4-string acoustic/electric run direct into mic pre, then into guitar rig 2

one thing i have been struggling with this mix is keeping it warm and "thick" without making it muddy... but sometimes sacrifice the fullness in the drums, which is the hardest part of this particular piece.

the drums do sound a bit thin in this, which will probably get me tinkering with this mix yet again. well, not that it matters anyway. heh, so what.

Listened to Rediscover - pretty blown away. Great chord sequence and production. I think a great vocal melody line could fit on top of this. Drums are tad thin, but not too bad. Maybe I'd decrease the reverb on the drums some. Anyway... well done.

why thank you.

yeah, the drums are thin, and every attempt i have made, with my feeble skills, have just resulted in muddy inarticulate drum tracks.

i'll probably return to this and figure it out.
