Hello. I am running an all analog reel to reel setup with only 1960s microphones. I am looking to get something to really make the tracks sound authentically old. Like 1960s television show music. I am looking at tube compressors to help get this sound. I was looking at Altec tube comps, Gates Sta-Levels. Everything else like RCA and Collins is thru the roof of cost. I would maybe consider getting a replica design tube compressor but i feel like i should just go for the real thing since im needing it to be authentic. Can the Altecs be used with voices? Does anyone use Gates Sta-Levels that can give details about its sound? Thanks

Tube preamps and the instruments themselves. Are you using older instruments?
