Getting a stronger voice on mixing

Hi !
I am an absolute amateur in recording. The voice that I record sounds clean etc and with effects available in Adobe Audition in Creaive suite cs 6 [Teacher's Edition] there is some improvement. However it does not sound " strong " . I am not sure of the terminology to be used. The closest I got in you tube was " How to get that tight voice" and ' The use of an exciter'. I have seen and heard even great singers sound ordinary [ in comparison to their recordings ] without modification.
I would like some advice on this please.

-Make sure you're not thinning out the vocal TOO much. You'll often need to remove some muddiness and boost some air, but if it is too thin, you won't have the strong feeling.
-Try doubling your vocal by recording a second take to match the first. The difference in pitch and time give your voice a thicker sound. You can even triple and pan these out for a wider voice.
-Compression is probably one of the more powerful tools make your voice appear to be in your face. Too much and it will sound small, but nearly all voices are compressed to bring out the nuances and add some character to the voice.

After processing, added some reverb/delays via aux sends will help add depth.
Try some of those techniques and keep experimenting.

I would first consider your singing style/ability before looking toward FX and processing.

If you are singing just from the throat, it will never sound as strong/full as when singing more from the chest and pushing with your gut.

Make 10 posts and put up a sound clip and then we can hear what you have going on.

Microphones matter.
Some voices just do better on certain mics. Tell them what you are using at the moment and I am sure the experts here will suggest an alternative.

I will have to work on those aspects.
Do I need to get an external compresor in addition to the preamp mixer and the vst compressor available in Adobe Aution?
How do I upload a clip for opinion and advice please?

It is general practice NOT to compress or add any FX to a recording. There is certainly no technical need for compression, modern digital recording gives you massive headroom.
Record at 24bits (and 44.1kHz is fine unless you just like stuffing hard drives) and keep you average signal down at around -18 to -20dBFS. I have AA1.5 and it has excellent meters, do not peak higher than neg 10 and some would say not even that high.

Once you have your signal saved, "clean and dry", you can bork it anyway you like!
