I don't know what it is, but no matter how much I futz around with mic placement and the amps EQ, I can never get a big guitar sound. I recently had a guitarist double track (only one guitarist in the band) and had the first signal go out to two separate amps and the second track in the center. A good example of what I'm talking about is Converge. What's the secret? Record the signal out of multiple amps? Various amounts of compression and EQ? I'm using fairly decent mics (usually a condenser and ribbon, sometimes SM57).

Here's an example of the sound I'm trying to achieve.
