Got my tapes from Q and today I've said to myself: damn, gotta get some more of 406 - fine tape, nice boxes - went to quantegy site, and - - no more 406 for three buck and change ! DAMN IT! now it's $13-something.
so 457 still going for 8.25 - get some now!. I have a feeling that there'll be no more sale, but rather less.
Well, it's just a feeling, I may be completely wrong.

btw, one thing I've noticed - 406 tapes I've got are 2005 and one box is actually 2004. all 547s are all 2006. So my guess is - 406 did not go well, so they had some 2-3 year old stock, so that's maybe why it was so dirt cheap for a while. now it's gone? looks like.

Interesting detail: 406 came in plastic care-box with no plastic bag inside. hmmmmmmmmm? heh heh. What does it mean? probably nothing. ..no bags though

Yeah I was planning on buying some 406 tapes from them. I got lazy about it for a couple days, then I noticed the price was up high again. Oh well...

I'm not buying tape from Quantegy on these terms. I know it's tempting and I wish everyone good fortune, but this fire sale was their idea, not ours.

At first I heard they would be taking orders through April. That sounded more reasonable. Then I saw the "Official announcement." It was a one-week warning, "Hurry up and buy our tape now before it's too late you bastards!" And the prices on most tapes went up to match the emergency they created.

They say they are taking orders until today and then working through April to fill them. Yet they are selling old tapes from 2005? Sounds more like they are selling old stock until its all gone... just another lie from these people.

RMGI is cheaper right now than what Quantegy wants for 456, GP9 and a few other favorites. I’ll be buying SM911. Plus I'm waiting until next year when people are selling 456 for half the cost.

If Q tapes will actually stop rolling out for good, then God only knows what the street price will be for ampex/Q NOS. But then again, if other brand(s) available, then it does not matter.

BTW, have I mentioned somewhere that I am not exactly thrilled with the conduct of Quantegy management?

GUYS! if you have ordered something from Q - report here what you've got, ie what year stock (look at the little paper sticker on the box - seven-digit number), condition etc... Just curious what exactly are (were) they trying to get rid of.

Heh heh… only thing is there is no tape crisis this time. Quantegy is just trying to create one. Some genius over there probably started thinking how much their tapes were selling for in January ’05.

It’s a pushy quick-cash scheme. I had heard rumors of Quantegy using strong-arm sales tactics with distributors before RMGI was actually a real threat... pissed some people off. It looks like the only difference is now we can experience it “Factory direct.”

Don’t get me wrong… Quantegy has a good product for the most part (beware some bad batches out there since '05), but I’m not liking the jerks that took over. It’s too bad… any number of people could have won the bid to reorganize the company. Unfortunately for us these idiots got it.

In case anyone else was wondering about what the manufacturing date was on some of the tape Quantegy has been unloading for cheaper:

The 406 1/2" I bought was made in 2005. It came in a cardboard carton.

The 406 1/4" was all from 2004. Plastic carton.

But, the 457 1/4" was all from 2006. Also in cardboard.

Just hope this stuff works out for me. At this point, this is all for my backup stuff. I'll probably be ordering another box or two more of Emtec "Special Run" LPR 35 very soon.
