Anyone ever heard of a German made console called EAB?
Know anything about them? What are their mic pre's like?
Supposedly they were made to compete with Neve's.

hi michael,

I definitely have heard about that brand, although I never had my hands on one of these consoles.
AFAIK, they were built exclusively for state-owned broadcasting companies in the seventies. They are supposed to be as rock-solid as the other famous german studio gear like TAB, telefunken, siemens, etc.

don't expect this unit to color the sound in any way - I'm almost certain it has been designed to be absolutely neutral.

you might also look after some old philipps broadcasting-consoles, who are in the same league, but unfortunately as rare, even over here in germany.

just my 2 (euro-) cents.

regards,

michael

I've got an 8x2 EAB H. Geiling console from 1965.
here it is- http://www.tab-funkenwerk.com/RE85.html
Oliver at TAB-Funkenwerk did all the work and I must admit, it is pretty fucking insane.
I wouldn't say that it compares to a Neve but more like a channel of V72/76 mic pre with a "pultec" sounding low end and a smooth as a baby's ass top end.
It has direct outs, so I can use individual channels or use it's 2-buss for summing.
this console is far from nuetral. the 2-buss crunches quite nicely when driven.
and yes it's built like a shit brickhouse.
