"There's a reason mixing seems so simple: it is simple." - George Massenburg
"There's a reason mixing seems so boring: it *is* boring." - dobro
You know, when the new, unwritten songs start coming through, I'm kind of uneasy all the time, and I don't settle down really until they get written. Songwriting serves the needs of the song, and that's all there is to it.
Then there's tracking. When I was a kid, the most beautiful thing in my life might have been the Christmas tree that cropped up once a year, all lit up and full of promise. These days, I have this stack of gear with red lights, green lights, yellow lights, the occasional blue or orange light, and it's the most beautiful thing I've seen since that Christmas tree. I'm happy when I'm tracking. I'm really grateful that I fell into this gaff and this board because it's done wonders for my music and my morale to boot. It's fun. It's like a diver poised on the board scant seconds before... oh, shut up, dobro.
Then there's mixing. It's like doing a jigsaw puzzle. It has to be done, but what kind of people really enjoy jigsaw puzzles? The same sort of people who think ABBA are cool, I suspect.
