Hey all,

You always see footage of George Thorogood playing that big bad hollowbody guitar.

Does anyone know about his amplifier setup? Been curious just lately after hearing a few of his tracks today.

Thanks

Just looked at a few vids, and only one showed amps, at all. But, they were too small in the vid to get any bead on what they are. One seemed to be a Fender Twin Reverb, but could have been any number of other amps, too. Sorry.

yeah so a long long time ago i was a young barista in a trendy coffee place serving fancy lattes and stuff to art school kids and office types. the place had been around for a few years and had a high-class reputation to contend with. it was for that reason that the owner insisted that the big vat of Quik powder used to make all the mocha, latte, and cappacino drinks remained invisible to the customers. there was a wall that you would have to walk around to come out to the dining room from the "kitchen". UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, it was emphasized over and over, is that Quik container to be carried around that corner.

so anyways yeah apparently George Thorogood's amp-of-choice is another closely guarded secret.

excellent anectode, fat_fleet! Didn't answer my question but entertaining, nevertheless.

My research turned up that the classic recordings were done with Fender Bassman amps

Live, he would use Twins or Princetons, depending on when you are talking about (he's been doing this for almost 40 years)

Lately, he has been using Mesa rack systems with a 2:90

Well, there you go- the cynics were right- Ol' Lonesome George DOES use POS amps, but doesn't let anyone know...

;);)

He seems to use whatever is handy/convenient at the time. Always tubes, but since he is doesn't really use a ton of distortion or anything, he could get that sound with just about any tube amp that has a fender-ish kind of thing going for it. Mesa makes sense in that regard.
