Vocals are very difficult to understand - but I like the spread. Are they doubled or just copied and pasted? Cool... The volume is good maybe some eq.

There's an underlying crackling noise that, while giving it a neat flavor, seems I don't know, maybe unneccesary. I haven't made a decision on that quite yet.

The drums, guitar and keys are great - really full mix here. I think the placement of the vocals requires more of a centering of the instrument sas you've done here.

I do like the writing in this too. The ending after 4:05 or so is excellent! Swooshy is cool.....

Interesting piece. I would put the guitar further back and add another part to reflect the vocal, bringing it in after a couple of verses, if it has verses. This would break the piece up some and add interest. Choose an instrument that would provide contrasting timbre to the pad in the background. Overall it has possibilities.

It needs some harrisonesque appegios & jangle.
The isotope style vinyl noise doesn't really help - a cute gimmick for an intro maybe.
Apart from those things this shows promise - seems a good song with a confused sense of direction.
the close mic vocal style is more harry Nilsson to me.
Keep going - good start!

hi

It's not an effect, it's an instrument called an Optigan - I can't be bothered to explain, but it's definitely not a gimmick.

I didn't write the song, so though I agree it would be nice to have some other stuff in there, I can't really say too much about it. As producer on this occasion, I really just ensured a clean, uncluttered performance that suits the rest of the album which I didn't record.

Just for the record, I happen to have also built the noise making devices on those songs. Hehe.

Could you post a snippet of the Optigan without the other stuff? I'd be interested to hear IT.

I really liked it all, except for the treatment of the vox.

I reckon a cool way to produce the vocals would be to give them the same eq as that Lenny Kravitz song - I can't remember the name of it - 'Believe in Yourself' or something - it was on the same album as Are You Gonna Go My Way. So that style eq with an ethereal echo.

Or get Daniel Johns from Silverchair to put one of his 'out of this worldly' type vocals on it ;-)

Good stuff - I really enjoyed this tune.

hi

I'm not a big fan of echo so opted to keep the vocal fairly clean - it's really just a tiny bit of reverb (more than I would normally use) and some compression.
