Let us be unburdened by that which has been ?
How much of a difference could one expect between the two? I haven't heard Genelec, but have heard the Mackies and think they are good. Any thoughts from someone who has used both? And what about the 1030As for nearfield as a sole monitoring system?

Out of my price range :D Wish I had to worry about this question :o

Good luck

Hard to say, two completely different sounds. I've worked with both and to be honest, I love and hate things about both of them.

The theory is the HR824s where born from the genelec design. (Or was that the 1032?) However, I can't confirm it.

The HR824 are full low-ended monitors with a pretty alright response in my opinion, plus it gives you a pretty wide sweet spot. So you can move around a bit and still hear your mix relatively the same. It also gives you pretty flexible options on the backplate. Heavily used in the industry. All sorts of good stuff. However, I'm not incredibly crazy over them.

The 1040s? Got any pictures to reference? (I might be referencing the 1032a) Can't say to much more than the fact that they sound great. Tight and focused, good response, good balance of content. A little more honest than the 824, but just an overall different sound.

However, in my opinion, I'm not incredibly convinced they are an absolute nessessity.

However, if you have the cash and you happen to fall head over heals over the sound, then by all means it would be a great buy.

Both great sets of speakers, very competent, both have good track records.
It just really comes down to taste and what you feel you want to spend.

I can't answer this question because i don't know the model number of the Genelecs we use at the school. I can tell you that I'd rather use the Mackies as they give me a better translation. But the schools room is bad so it may be a mute point.

I guess I was just curious. Doesn't sound like anything that I want to spend an extra $2K on if they are both decent. 824 it is, then. :) :)

seeker,

why don't you go down to the geetar center on hallendale and check them both out. they are not so similar. actually; they do not have the 1040's there I don't think...they have the 8040's (the new ones that are supposed to be way better).
