gimmi your mic!
hi fellas,

I intend to add a LDC to my small collection of mics (so far I have a Neumann KSM184, AT 4047 and a Sennheiser 441), which I want to use primarily for tracking vocals.

I saw today that Microtech Gefell has a 75th Anniversary Special and offers all of their products at a discount of 75%. The offer will expire today (Dec 7), so I would have to act quickly.

A Gefell M930 would hence only be EUR 625 (= US$ 750). Do you think that mic would deliver a solid sound for vocals (plz keep in mind that I have an AT 4047 already -- a step up?) and would that be a good deal?

Cheers

Is that the one that looks like a miniature TLM103? If so, i saw it retail for around $1000 here in TN and i gave it a quick vocal test through an Avalon 2022 and a Great River NV with that mic and a B1 and a AT4033. IMO, the B1 sounded best (brighter crisper, but not overly) but it was a rather quick in-store (quiet) test. The Gefell sounded better than the 4033. But any more info that i give you would have to be guesses.

The great River sounded healthier, more round, and more balzy than the 2022 too.

if its not the model i used, then i have no fn idea

Thanks for your reply, Phosphene.

Yes, the M930 looks a bit like the TLM103, but it's about the same size (no "minature" version ;) ). Its hard for me to believe that the Studio Pprojects B1 ($80?) sounded better than the Gefell M930, but you might be right.

I saw that Fletcher has mentioned on this board a few times that he "hasn't found a single application where I haven't preferred the Gefell M930 to the TLM-103...". So I just ordered a M930 directly from the Gefell factory for a whooping $750.

I'd like to know what you think about the Gefell M930 after you've had it for a while and had a chance to really give it a workout... I've read good things about it... please post your opinion of it in a month or so. Thanks.

ok, DJL, I will. I don't have much to compare, though (AT4047, KSM184 and MD441). Poor underpriviliged me :(
