gated reverb confusion

Hello,

I have been having a hard time trying to figure out how to create a gated reverb for a snare track in sonar x1. I have searched and read the previous threads here and online articles, but I still don't understand how it is done. I understand the theory behind it but do not know how to set up the routing. . aux sends, side chaining. .?
Is there a really easy way to understand how to route everything?
Any help is appreciated.

Very simple if you have an outboard reverb and noise gate (hardware) units. send your drum track to the reverb unit first and the the gate unit and set it how you like it and how fast/slow you want it to gate the reverb ;)

You do a parallel effects loop just like normal. The details of how that is done depends on your DAW.

Aux send = a "copy" of the track you're sending. That copy is going to come back as 100% of whatever you're adding (in this case, reverb). So your effect is going to be "100% wet" or "100% reverb" or whatever it says.

The aux buss is going to be where that signal is sent (typically in most DAW's, that acts as the return also). In the insert of that buss, there will be (in this case) a gated reverb of your choosing (again, set to 100% wet).

You can send whatever tracks you want, in whatever amount you want, to that single aux buss.

You can set up another buss with a "regular" (room, hall, plate, etc.) verb on it and send some of the original signal to that aux buss also. You can even (usually) send an aux buss to another aux buss.

For example -- If you have a delay ('echo') send on a vocal track and a reverb send also, the delay can seem disjointed from the vocal because it's "plain" while the vocal has reverb. Send the echo to the reverb and now it's "in the same space" as the vocal.

All make sense...?
