I'm using iDrum to create drum tracks from .waw files (most of which are recorded in 24bit), which I then drag into GB1. Since I know that GB1 is 16bit, I'm wondering what happens to the drum sounds.

I've read somewhere that to avoid digital jitter, you have to 'dither down' when converting sample rates. Does GB do this, or are the sounds somehow converted more harshly?

I'm not really knowledgeable about technical stuff like this, so I hope made myself clear here.

Any input appreciated.

Bit depth and sample rate are two distinct things. Bit count has to do with resolution and sample rate has to do with frequency response. Opening 24bit files in a 16bit app lops off 8 bits which you can never get back. Of course if you have the original source - downloaded file, DVD, etc. - you still have the 24bit files. Sample rates are expressed in kHz - like 44.1kHz, 96kHz and so on.

Okay, thanks a lot (I realise I should have said 'bit depth'). How much of an impact does this 'lopping off' have?
