has anyone tried using garageband for mixing recorded music, would it be good for that. Is there any other free or cheap software that anyone has to recomend?

I'm not sure what you're asking --- is it DJ software you're looking for?

If so, Native Instruments has a free program called 'Traktor DJ' that will play everything from mp3 to wav files a do a fairly good job of it. Google Native Instruments if you're interested.

I was on my school G5's and played around with it. It seemed pretty neat but I wasnt in it long enough to give a good opinion.

I tried Garageband for about an hour, then got tired of it... if you are a complete beginner it might keep you busy for few weeks. If you are more serious with recording than an average person you should get something better. And I dont think its really meant for mixing pre-recorded music... more like creating new.
