Still Learning.......
Right, I've just bought this interface 'coz it was going real, real cheap. I had to get it straight away or someone else was going to get it, even though I've never geard of it before.
Has anyone got one and are they any good?
I've not had a chance to use it much but is there anything I need to watch out for?
Should I just ditch it and get a Delta 1010?
Cheers.

Gadget Labs 824

Neil,
I've had the 8/24 for about 3-4 years. It initially was a very good card supposedly has the same converters used in the Mackie digital board, but I was never able to confirm this. My card has developed problems over the years where certain channels are noisier than others. The noise floor on these channels are up to -66db in some cases making it hard to record critical passages.
Since Gadget Labs are no longer in buisness there is no longer any real support out there other than an old site for the last driver downloads and perhaps the yahoo BBS.
In addition you will not be able to sync the card digitally to anything if you don't have the "optional" digital daughter card, because there is no word clock out. Also there is some problems when using midi metronome with midi time code spilling signal (noise) across some channels(who knows!)
If you got a really good deal on it and it is not noisey, the sound quality is very good.
If you don't need to expand later it is a good card to start.
It wil not work with win XP. No matter what anyone says.
I recently updated to a Delta 1010 and have been thouroghly pleased. Much quieter.

its a very good card, but considering its no longer made, driver support may be pretty much nada......

how much did you get it for ?....

I got it for £130 with cubase 5.(summat) thrown in!
Thats about $200 I think.
It's alright at the moment, although I hadn't had a chance to try all the tracks yet. Can't really complain at that price though. The guy was moving away from computers altogether back to ADAT's and mixers. That sort of opportunity is pretty rare on the sleeply little island I live on........
I'm pretty pleased though. It's sooooooo much better than my old SB audigy with Cubase!
Gotta start somewhere though I guess......

The only thing I was wondering was that for monitering purposes (headphones when recording), what is the best way of doing it? Will I need a desk as Cubase outputs to outputs 1+2?
Really I'd like to keep the live drive headphone socket......
Is this possible?
