FYE music stores

Did you know that Fye music stores will carry your cd for 100 dollars. Of course they have it rigged so that they get your 100 dollars and a percentage of whatever is sold. I think it might be worth it just for the sake of seeing my CD in the store. All the independent music stores have gone out of bussiness so this seems to be the only way to get it into the store.
 
As someone who owned a nationally distributed record label in Canada for a couple years, trust me when I say that getting your record into the store and getting it into the hands of the customer are two totally different ideas and can't replace each other. If your interest is in seeing the record on the shelf, spend the money, but I don't imagine it'll ever pay for itself. People just don't buy records that way.

Still, it is really cool to see your record in a store, especially when you aren't looking for it.
 
I do. I go out specifically looking for music by unsigned bands and artits. I not a music industry mogul or talent spotter, Just an average consumer who likes to hear something new and different that you don't get in the current mainstream or on the radio. However I fear I am in a distinct minority.

One simple that is often missed is make it clear what your musics like, Band, Acoustic solo artist, dance whatever. As someone that buys blind like this, if i can't tell what genre the music is I don't buy it. Also I find a bands/Artists own influences attract me.

Did you get this info from a website or in person at a store?

Is there a weblink explaining their program?
 
... you should be able to consign your cd's to numerous independent record stores, for free (and you're more likely to get noticed and played in an indie than you are in a big corporate chain). some indie stores even offer deals on promotion... like for $100-$200 you get a listening station, and a cut in their ads in a local paper for a month or so.
