Has anybody introduced effects to a track while listening on the multitrack view? I have to go to the one track view to put some fx but sometimes when I take them to the multitrack view it is not what I wanted.

From Version 2.0 of Cool Edit, you've been able to apply various effects in real time in Multitrack and listen to how they sound without permanently altering the track they're applied to. The only downside is that it takes up bags of resources on your computer and if you're running too many tracks, you get dropouts and clicks and random shit happening. And you can save the effects applied to those tracks, STILL WITHOUT MAKING PERMANENT CHANGES. Very cool. EQ, compression, reverb etc - you name it.

Yeah- and- you can mix down the tracks you want in Multitrack, with their FX, and save the result (Save As... in Edit window, giving the 'mixdown' a name)- or don't mixdown, and just recall the FX setting in the Edit window of the effect you want for that individual track.

After you do the mixdown in Multitrack with the FX rendered in, and it's been Saved As (some name), you can still go back to the Multitrack window and remove the FX from the original track- the only destructive editing goes on in the Edit window.

At the end of your session, when you close, Cool Edit asks you if you want to save the changes you made to whatever you were dealing with. Now is when you need that mini-fridge nearby with a beer in it, while you wait for Cool Edit to do your saving of all those tracks... ;)
