FX continues ringing

I use Reaper 6.8. I have a brief (lead) guitar track in the middle of a song. This guitar track, prior to and immediately following the recorded part, is blank. There is one FX on the track - it is the Reaper Delay w/sustain. I use the FX sparingly. When this part of the guitar track ends (and is blank from there onwards), the FX keeps on "ringing", even over the blank part of the track.
How can I stop the FX from ringing when there is nothing on this part of the track. There must be a simple way to do this. However, I do not know what to do. Many thanks, Brian

Hi Brian,
Yeah, that's generally how we expect time based effects to work.
Even though the track has ended, or live input has ceased, the delay effect will continue.

You can either automate mute or volume down for the track until the repeats have finished, or automate some property of the delay to make it stop when, and how, you want.

Homestly you should just answer the phone…..that’ll stop the ringing.
