FW soundcard as convertor for hw daw? 828mk2?

Anybdy using thier souncard as a A/D convertor for other hardware or another DAW besides the computer. See I have a 1680 and it has 20 bit A/D convertors and supposedly not that hot to boot. Most people recommend some type of 24 bit upgrade to improve the sound quality of the unit. Sinvce 've also been wanting a new soundcard and was reading the 828 MKII could function as a digital mixer with sends and all it's sounding like just what i'm needing for both my computer and 1680. Just wonderng if anybody else is doing something similar?

Any AD/DA converter would do you if the 1680 has ADAT (which from memory I think it does). I don't think the converter itself even needs to have an internal mixer. However, does the 1680 support higher bit depths and sample rates? (Shows you how long I kept my 1680...)
