Hi:
Thinking about purchasing a laptop (Windows as the OS) to run Sonar 6 PE and Reason 3. Would love to use
my FW-1082 as a control surface/audio interface.
Are there any caveats I should know about before taking the plunge? Will this setup even work?
Thanks for any help you folks can give me

Am I right in thinking that laptops generally tend to have 4 pin firewire ports?
Tascam say
the FW1082 should be used with a 6 pin port.
Having said that the other 2 pins on 6 pin firewire are for power and of course the 1082 has its own external PSU so it should be fine.
If you can get a laptop with a 6 pin port though you might want to go for one of those to be on the safe side.
Other than that you should be fine as long as you meet the minimum specs.
I run
my FW1082 off my laptop no problem - I just picked up a 3-port firweire PCI card and bingo. No hassles.
Apart from the usual hassles entailed in computer-based recording...
