At present, I live in a two bedroom apartment with 24 guitars, 5 amps (3 of them half stacks), a slew of effects, mics and outboard gear, four Tascam recorders: DP-01FX/CD, 688, 564 and 424 and nearly 40 (mostly Apple Macintosh) computers. To say it's a bit tight would be an understatement. My band rents a 10 x 20 rehearsal room at a local rehearsal complex and it works really well. The thing is, in about a year, I plan to buy a small three bedroom house. One of the rooms will be exclusively for recording, and I suspect that it will be comparable in size to my band's present rehearsal room. I'd like to set up a small project studio for myself, which will also double as my band's rehearsal room. Given this limited amount of space, I am open to any suggestions regarding setting up a small studio. My gear will remain as it is, although I'm sure I'll add some items over the next year. A concern I have is soundproofing. I'd also like to set up baffles or partitions. Obviously more room would help, but ultimately what I am after is a place where I cam leave things set up, have some better control over the sound and also have things well organized. I want to minimize cable clutter, however, I know from experience that will be a challenge. I want to set up several workstations using my different recorders and at least one of my Power Macs for mastering and CD burning. Any input and suggestions is welcomed.
