This song is for me to experiment with mixing and making it sound just right.
I choose a funky song because this includes the instruments without any reverb or other special effects. Please take a listen and say what you think!

nice! It was pleasant to my ears; the wonderful panning / stereo sound. Good groove too

Thanks snakeyez, I appreciate it alot! I try my best to pratcise mixing and leard as much as I can. In two months I'll record some stuff with a friend and my bro, so ( hopefully) I'll be fit and ready to make a good mix.:P:)

nice dude... i dig the jam! :D

okay, my thoughts on the mix. Once everybody has come in and you're grooving, I think it sounds great. Everything is gelling. If i had to nitpick, the mix sounds a bit biased to the right, but maybe that's just my ears. I'd also consider eqing the three guitars a bit differently as it gets a bit crowded with all three guitars.

In the beginning when it's just the one guitar and the drums, it doesn't sound quite as smooth. Is there a gate on the snare or is the snare just very muffled? Maybe add some 'verb to the snare to make it a bit less choppy and more natural and fill up more space since. Also play around with your compressor attack and release.

that's addictive drums,,,right?
Yeah that's right, good ears!:p I don't have the privilege to record a live drumset due to no drum mics. But I'm planning to buy the Toneport UX8 and a drum mic set real soon. Now I have to settle with AD, but it's ok. The rest of the instruments are recorded with the toneport UX1 ( guitar and bass ) and a Korg for the Electric Piano part.

Maybe you could change the volumes of the guitar parts around a bit. Bass sounds great.

Guitars tend to battle a bit for sonic space.

Apart from that, short and sweet!

This is what I got so far:

I don't know where I'm going with this but this is where I am right now:P.
I tried to make the instruments blend in more with each other and I tried to clean up the mix more.
Tnx voor all the good advice!:)

I like!

Sounds great. I will give it a listen on my monitors when I get home. Nice sequence added at the end. Prehaps add a keys solo?

I really love the snare and hi-hat articulations. Maybe you could vary the velocity of the snare on the 2 and 4 beats of a bar. Mix it up a bit. The verb on the snare seems a bit dead as well. Give it a bit more space maybe?

If you have the capability, a brass solo would be excellent.

Keep up the good work.

haha thanks,

sounds good,,,,,it wasn't a criticism :):)i use it myself due to lack of space.

i just have an liking for the dw snares ;)

<boyzo,,my face will be red if its not a DW>

if it's any use to you,,,sometimes i automate an equaliser over the snare track, and just vary the high end slightly, and randomly.

it just takes away attention from every hit being identical,, and takes less time than properly manipluting midi values :)

keep up the good work.
