you know, i did a remix last night.
the first thing i noticed was, the low end in the drum machine riff, was very deep..... lots of subs.
so i highpassed that at about 35 hz, and cleaned it right up.
i think THAT was the culprit.
then i took the bass track, highpassed at 32 hz, didn't make that much difference, then did a peak subtraction with a Q of about 2.5 centered right on 100hz, and that really cleaned it up.
i low passed ALL of the guitar parts starting around 11khz, and that took a lot of the BITE that was in the high end off...
and made the guitar parts much smoother sounding.
i boosted the kick on the drums at 60hz, and this rounded out the thump nicely.
i don't mix with a sub....
i don't care for deep deep mixes like that anyway..
but i'm used to mixing rock mixes.
and with this hip hop'ish beat, i brought in subsonics i don't normally deal with.
lesson learned.
it's funny, but i have a set of Sony Funtopia Ear buds (with extended bass) that, set up properly in my monitor amp, bring out ALL of the super lows that i cannot hear on my monitors.
LOL
