Full rock song recorded in one night minus vocals

I like the feel of it, I would give input on how to make it better but Im a complete noob to mixing so my input may be invalid :P

Mix is quite harsh and sizzly, I think it's mainly from the drums. If you knock down the highs and bring a little bottom end back into the bass/guitars, it will balance a bit better

From Speed metal, speed, goey and speeding fines we get to speed recording & mixing.
C'mon: popular wisdom has it that a little distance & time between recording then mixing then any other process are good things.
Instead of revving us up with a "look what I did between sleeps mamma" thing & then dropping in that it's not actually done because the vox are missing (& mixing a backing track to "completion" without the vocal means you'll be remixing completely when you get the vocal - well you will if you listen to what your ears tell you) why don't you ask if you've got your rhythm section bedded down well enough or if the EQ is OK so far?
An next week I'll post the new LP I recorded, mixed and mastered between shifts at the mill Monday to Wednesday!
Sorry, you don't deserve all of that - but then again you do.
Bulls Hit is pretty much spot on in what he says which is: get your rhythm section bedded down well.

What you got so far is a bit harsh. Using LPF are very tricky because you can make things sound dull, but this is the kind of mix that could really benefit by LPF's on the guitars, for instance.

Post when you finish it, good start.

Ok then, assuming this is just an instrumental piece, how is the mix? I redid everything and updated the link in my original post

PS. I don't really feel like I rushed it TOO bad, I just have alot of time on my hands and nothing to do with it, so I record, mix like 6-7 hours straight. Going that long requires some fresh ears on it

Haha, when it started I was like "wait a second... I know this song." I actually remember hearing this song back in 2004 and got really pissed it wasn't on their first record.

Anyways, the mix is pretty decent for a first pass. I would say bring the bottom mic on the snare down a bit, if there is one. It's really rattly.

What mic are you using on the kick?

These aren't mic'd, but I'm a little happier that you thought so. I am using EZDrummer. I guess I could turn it down a tiny bit, but I kinda like the snare drum to be kind of up front

I agree that the snare is a little up front, but if that's what you want you got it.

I think it sounds pretty good overall. I don't really care for the cymbals in the "chorus?" part...that I think is the weakness of ezdrummer.

I also think the mix is a little "thick"...lots going on in the same mid/low-mid range. It's got enough separation so I can hear everything. But I'd do a little sculpting in the lowmids to get it to sound more open. make sense?

Not bad at all. Which EZD kit are you using?

Would you recommend scooping mids on the distorted guitar or the other lead parts? I am using the Metalheads expansion
