Well, at any rate, if you want it to sound like a tube amp, buy a tube amp.

If you want to make up some new sound with the modeler, go for it, but you will never be able to recreate what has already happened.

So, I will give a conditional amen!

Fuck amp modelers for recreating what has already been done (better) by tube amps.

only if they have 16 tubes in the preamp section and 4 pairs of power tubes... and tube steak. lots of that, really gives the amp a kick. you need tube speakers too, and all of your effects need to be valve-driven. after you have met all of these conditions, you no longer need a space heater in your studio. aha...

i own a tube amp that i wouldn't trade for anything in the world (besides another one), a pod, and a few solid-state amps. what the hell, they're all nice to have around, and for how cheap modelers are these days, why not?

also, i'm a firm believer in the saying: "anything bad that can happen, will happen." so if any of my amps go, i'm not trying to explain it to some ignorant bastard who doesn't "get" that things break. i can simply say "i didn't think the sound suited you, lets try something else"[joking, but you never know]. if you can't get a decent sound out of a pod or vox, you're either doing something wrong or using the presets.

Fuck Digital Audio Workstations!!
Reel to Reel / tape is the only way to record!

Fuck CD's! The only way to put out a recording is on vinyl or analog tape!
Anyone who listens or records to CD's is stupid!

What the fuck ever.

im just so sick and tierd of messing with all those amps Mods and shit..i must of spent like over a thousand on them..lets see V-amp 2..Vox Tone lab..Mesa V-twin..actully the v-twin is alright, Pod..Guitar Rig, Amplitube, Amplitube Live...then Recently i bought a Mesa boogie dual Rectifier and wow what a big difference and al so bought a Crate Blue voodoo..that sounded like a tube amp but it didnt have the In your face sound..so yeah fuck Amp Mods!!!

The closest thing to an actual tube amp modeler would be the Mesa Road King. Like most of the recto series, it has lots of sound options for each channel, but with the road king you can select your output tube type and what cabinet(s) you use for each channel, what rectifier type for each channel, etc etc...

Even then, I bet you couldn't get a Marshall tone out of it still.

yeah if you wanna get a Marshall tone by a real Marshall..if you wanna geta Mesa tone buy a Mesa..if you want a digitech sound buy a digtect lol i ust to be a amp modeller freak..i was always trying to get that Mesa sound..now i listen to my old recordings and im like wtf it sounds like shit..now i gotta retrack lol

I wouldn't fuck an amp modeler.
You might hurt your penis - those 1/4" jacks are small!

On a more serious note - I hear the Vox Tonelab is the best amp modeler.

This isn't a modeler - but it's worth mentioning nonetheless, as it allows you to record distorted valve tones very quietly:

I have used amp farm too get some great sounds. Thought we were using it just for basic tracking and would reamp later, maybe. Didnt happen. the part sat really well and sounded exactly like we wanted. We have a great collection of tube amps large and small, so that wasnt the reason. It simply sounded great.

To discount the use of any tool is a mistake , in my opinion.
Saying "fuck compressors" or "fuck amp modelers" is like saying "fuck adjustable wrenches, get a real ratchet set or a good set of crescent wrenches if you REALLY want to turn a nut!"

There are times when an adjustable wrench will do just fine.
I find that the combination of amp farm (as a plug in) alog side of some classic amp choices woks really, really well, including being able to re-voice the basic track done with amp farm to suit the song!
DURING he mix!

Man, that is common sense shit. If you really want or NEED the Marshall sound, then you got to have a real deal marshall stack. If you have the budget and the space, it is a no brainer to spend money on a pro quality tube amp. But AMP modelers still have their place, for quick and dirty recording, for jamming in a situation when a full on stack isn't realistic and as a backup to your main rig. You CAN get some good sounds from a modeler, but it is best to think of them as a "new" kind of sound, that can still be brutal and heavy, and effective - NOT as a replacement for a high end tube amp.

Have you tried a Boss GT-6 or GT-8? I had a GT-3 and it was the best modular with effects I have heard.

I use a POD XT frequently. I also use a Hotrod Deluxe frequently. I'm not giving up either any time soon.

It's been said before but it bears repeating: It is the artist without talent that blames his tools.

I am a little annoyed at my PODxt at the moment. I've been having trouble dialing in a nice fairly clean though rich tone, with just a bit of a bite, and it doesn't sound 'real.' To top it off, upgrading the xt is gonna be a major bother, because it seems it v1, or 2.01, whatever, and it will only upgrade via MIDI. Now, this here iMac doesn't have MIDI software with a USB output; My father-in-law's computer doesn't have a PC MIDI interface, or a MIDI proggy.

ARRRRRGGGGgGg!

It'll get done, but not right away. I am going to spend tonight trying to dial in an acceptable tone. If I don't get one, I'll just use my amp tomorrow, and think about drop kicking the xt into the classifieds.....

I read an interview with Hartley Peavey recently where he said something along the lines of, "If a musician believed that all the best music had already been written, they wouldn't bother trying to write new music. So how come we believe all the best guitars are already made, and all we're trying to do is make the best replica's of our grandparents' guitars?".

He has a point .... he also said, "If Danelectros and Supro amps were shit back then, how can they not still be shit now?".

Class. :D
