I want to use an FTP site to swap audio with a friend. He only lives a few miles away but its the point of learning the process that drives me. Now, I am using "FTP surfer". It's freeware. It works very well if I use it with my Alesis HD24. Now, I would think I need to know my own IP address and that of my friend right? Am I on the right "track" :)

you don't need anyone's IP adress. You just need the adress of an FTP site that you can upload stuff to.

Why don't you just use the file sharing feature of a chat program like Yahoo chat? It would somply things tremedously.

Your friend should have some ftp client and puts in your IP to access your computer/server. Are you behind a router or firewall? You'll have to do some port forwarding if you are.

Other idea.....

I have no idea at all what this is but it might be worth checking out

I think its still in beta testing.

You can also send a 1gb email pretty easy and secure with https://www.yousendit.com/

I've used things like AIM and Yahoo to send 50>mb files and it just isnt that fun for me at least.
