bollocks redux!
Okay decided to sell these too. I keep trying to pare down my mic collection and all of the sudden I have 15 again.
In stock form the SP1 got a stellar review in issue #60 of TapeOp written by Terry Setters-- designer of Chameleon Labs new TS-1 and TS-2 tube mics who said of the SP1 "You knew that with all of the microphones on the market, there had to be at least one cheapo Chinese mic that stands head and shoulders above the rest. You were right!... The mic is called an MCA SP1."
The stock circuit is reportedly very similar to an MXL 990/991, but reportedly uses some components with different values in the circuit and it has a v76-like body.
These both had their cheap stock electrolytic capacitors replaced with much higher quality Panasonic Polypropylene ones (which reportedly "cleans up the treble and bass and opens up the sound") by a tech who posts on various forums as "digitaldrummer"
I'll sell them for the price I was quoted/ultimately paid-- one for $65 shipped/both for $120 shipped to the US.
I also still have an ADK SC-1 modded in a similar way (cheap, stock electrolytics replaced with Panasonic polypropylenes) by the same dude that I'm selling for $55 shipped to the US.
I'll post pics tomorrow for anyone interested.
