Selling off some parts here...I have most of a Tascam 388 that is being parted out and I'm finally selling the crown jewel, the complete headblock. The record/reproduce head was lightly relapped to remove a slight wear pattern. These heads do not include a head report or other quantitative assessment of their remaining life...I just want to be clear. BUT...I believe this was the first relap and it was minimal. The tech that lapped them commented that there was a lot of material left, and judging by the comparison of the new profile compared to the profile of the headshield (see the last picture below) I believe my claim of first relap is valid. I ain't a chain-yanker.

I had the same tech relap another 388 head for a minty 388 I recently sold and I was surprised at how well the cal'ed up...edge tracks were as strong as 2~7 with equal response.
