The time has come to sell my much-loved 1972 Fender Rhodes Mark I Seventy-Three Stage Piano. I’m moving to a smaller place soon and I won’t be able to take it with me or fit it in my tiny apartment. I bought this Rhodes about 2 years ago from the original owner. It was in great condition then and it is in even better condition now. I spent a lot of time and money fixing this instrument up and it plays perfectly and sounds amazing. If you’ve only heard software emulations of the Rhodes this piano will blow you away. From the warm distorted growl of a fiercely struck low key to the sparkly twinkle of the high register its sound cannot be replicated! Here is a list of some of the fixes/modifications I have done on the piano within the past two years:

- Thoroughly cleaned the inside of the piano
- Properly cleaned all of the tines
- Replaced faulty tines and pickups with NOS parts
- Replaced all of the grommets, spacers, and grommet screws updating the unit to Mark IV standards (Major Key kit)
- Replaced all of the Damper Felts with new felts (Major Key kit)
- Replaced the pedestal felts with new felts coated with silicone lubricant to improve the action (Major Key Kit)
- Replaced all of the Hammer Tips with Major Key parts. I kept the original hammer tips, which can be rotated and reused if desired as they produce a slightly different sounding tone
- Replaced broken/rusted cabinet corners with new parts from Speakeasy
- Replaced broken/rusted cover latches with new latches from Speakeasy
- Properly tuned the piano
- Adjusted the action, tine positioning, and escapement on the entire Piano to my liking

In addition to these modifications I am also including many spare parts/materials for the asking price. These include extra tines (with cutting chart), grommets, spacers, screws, hammer tips, damper felts, pedestal felts, bridal straps, key bushings, pickups, and various glues and sprays needed for repairs or further modifications. Also, the piano comes with the original leg braces, cover, legs, and sustain pedal/rod assembly. The only thing that I didn’t bother addressing on this Rhodes is the outer Tolex, which is worn and torn in places (but not nearly as bad as most models I’ve seen) because that didn't bother me. For the Rhodes with all of its modifications, accessories, and spare parts I am asking $850.00 OBO. This is a great price if you are looking for a Rhodes in excellent condition. Regardless of what some people might boast, you will find very few Rhodes’ in this good of condition. The Piano is located in Tinley Park, IL 60487 (Chicago south suburbs) and MUST be picked up. I will consider driving a little if I am reimbursed for gas. Please drop me an e-mail at Todd_Baran@hotmail.com if you are interested, have any questions or want to see pictures (the server wont let me upload any that are of a quality/size worth looking at) and I’ll get back to you right away.

If I had a better back, I'd get it. I used to have one and whoever called these things 'portable' had a twisted sense of humor. But they are cool, there's no question about that. Herbie Hancock rules, baby!

haha, no kidding, these are so heavy, but you have to suffer for your art! Thanks for the kind words guys, this thing really is in great condition and if I wasn't moving/actually knew how to play well I would be keeping it!

Oh, I wanted to mention that I'd also consider trades for some nice mic pre's, especially a sytek or any api 500 series pres. Thanks!

SOLD. I was kind of sad to let it go but it went to someone that could play it WAY better than me, thanks!
