Frustrated and cant get started

Hello,

I am an experienced guitarist, but a complete technodyslexic....and.....I've been trying to set up a home recording system for a while. Started off with an Audigy Soundblaster and PT LE8 but fried my PC plugging the fire wire in the wrong port. Have now got Alesis i02 express with Mixcraft, but have Cubase if I need it. All this is now on my laptop. Problem is, I had to download ASIO4all to reduce the latency, but laptop wont recognise the Alesis to use as the default playback....any ideas anyone

Doesnt the Alesis web site have an uptodate asio driver you could download. I'd go for asio over asio4all everytime. just my opinion

Seems like the Alesis doesn't have dedicated interface but that shouldn't be a problem.

ASIO4ALL is a little tricky at first. I had the same problem a while back. I don't have much experience with Mixcraft, but I'm sure if you go into options of Mixcraft and select the audio driver tab, you will eventually get to a screen that looks like this:



What ASIO4All will do by default is enable your onboard soundcard as well as your audio interface (iO2 for you). What you have to do is go into that screen and disable the onboard soundcard. You do this by clicking that wrench icon in the bottom right corner and clicking on the little power button.

So once you disable your onboard soundcard (probably Conexant or Realtek) you have to enable the input of your iO2. Select the iO2 from the branch (my interface wasnt plugged in when i took the screenshot) and select the output and the input/inputs.

Then click OK, restart Mixcraft and try and play around a bit. Note that since you've disabled the onboard soundcard (only inside Mixcraft), Mixcraft won't output sound through you laptop's headphone jack.
